Fussing and not taking anywhere near as much milk as before

Hello! I have a problem with my 9.5 week old bottle fed baby. he's started only having between 70-90mls/2.5oz each feed instead of 120-150ml/4-5oz. He had been taking 120ml/4oz from about 6 weeks with no problems at all.

I have looked it up on other forums and apparently it's a common problem from around 10 weeks. But there's no conclusive solution. It could be various things but i have ruled out many of them, eg oral thrush, going off milk, wrong flow teat, wrong temp, easily distracted (therefore fed in darkened room etc). I thought initially it was just cos of the 8 week jabs but that was nearly 2 weeks ago. He doesn't seem unhappy tho....unless i try and feed him more than he wants. Then he just screams and pushes the bottle out of his mouth with his tongue and shakes his head about. Sometimes he does that but then will take a few gulps but then starts shaking his head again.

Another thing was that he started to refuse more when we changed to powder from ready made but i have tried him back on carton milk but it makes no difference.

He will happily take his dummy tho when he's had enough to eat. And i have even try to trick him by whipping the dummy out and putting the bottle in but this will only work for a few mins max.

Does any one have any suggestions?

It could be that he has just had enough. Is he feeding more frequently or just the same? Babies go through phases just like adults where sometimes they eat lots and sometimes not much. My DD was the same so i understand how you are feeling!

Hey thanks for replying! Well he is eating more frequently-ish. ie i'll feed him the 70ml say and then because he hasn't has a full feed as far as i am concerned i will try an hour or even half an hour later and sometimes he will take the rest. It's just that he was SO regular before that now it's really strange that his feeding is so different that i assumed something was wrong. My consolation is that he isn't unhappy and he is pooing ok. (TMI?!)

I used to really worry about how many ounces DD was taking, especially at her last feed before bed.
Maybe ring and have a chat with the HV - mine said as long as baby was gaining weight ok then not to be concerned.
Sure there will be others with some more help along soon!
