I have a 3 week old baby. He is currently feeding every 2 hours, has no routine and I am really worried how I will be able to entertain my 5 and 8 year olds during the summer holidays. Does anyone have any advice?

I'm planning on throwing my 8yr old and 2yr old out into the garden an awful lot in the holidays and have a stack of dvd's for rainy days. I am fairly sure I'll be a bag of nerves come september though.

do whatever you;d normally do, only with more breaks for a cuppa and to feed the baby!

seriously, you just do it. small babies are very portable, very easy to feed (assuming you're bf?).. it'll be fiiiiiiine!!

Do you have a sling? You could put baby in the sling and if you can get the hang of feeding him in there then you'll have your hands free to keep your other DCs entertained. Congrats btw

Had this last summer twins borm end of June and three other dc's to entertain, we had alot of friends round to play and actually made things easier, also did parks picnics and things,
Thought it would be easier this year but twins just started walking and ds1 has broken his elbow going to be a long holidays

Conratulations on your new baby! You need some days out where your older children can amuse themselves - parks, beaches, softplay areas for example. try to meet with mums in their class so they have someone to play with and then you will be able to feed your baby. Also invite friends to your house or meet up at theirs. Your older children will be ebtertaiend and you can feed your baby in (sort of!) peace!

So glad you posted this, my baby is 3 weeks and I have dc age 5 and 4. My post was going to say 'how can i sit on my bottom all day feeding the baby when i've got 2 dc needing 3 meals and attention'.But i'm not sure how much sympathy i'd get. We do just have to get on with it and take all offers of help from friends. Sometimes it's very difficult: we've been having terrible teatimes, baby crying,me trying to feed baby so unable to serve seconds to hungry 5 year old. I'm wondering if a postnatal support thread is needed!Actually i might try starting one.

Hi looloo, I found a simple ring sling I life saver at teatimes, I even learnt how to feed hands free,
I hope things improve for you, it will get easier!
