BOOK OF THE MONTH - vote for April's choice here

We're (belatedly) celebrating Paddy's Day with four of the best modern Irish writers. Not only do they share their nationality but also their nominations for the Booker Prize. But most importantly, who will grab your vote for April's Book of the Month?

Poll is now open and will close at midnight on Sunday 28 March

We'll get together to discuss the winner on Tuesday 27 April, 8-9.30 pm (and we'll do our best to get the winning author to join us and answer your questions)

Don't forget we'll be discussing March's Book of the Month, the controversial BAD SCIENCE by Ben Goldacre, next Tuesday 30 March - hope you can join us.

And for those new to Bookclub, here is how it works.

I've read all four of these, but have voted for Secret Scripture in a selfless attempt to save everyone the tedium of having to read any of the other three!

OnlyWantsOne · 24/03/2010 09:23

have voted - I think there should be some embracing of womens culture - how about The Distant View of a Minaret - Alifa Rifaat, an amazing collection of short storied about Islamic women

sfxmum · 24/03/2010 17:00

LOVE LOVED brooklyn

DecorHate · 25/03/2010 17:21

I've voted for Brooklyn too mainly because I've just started reading it!

Su, have you read Sebastian Barry's earlier book "A Long Long Way"? Much better IMO though rather harrowing (set during WW1)

CaptainNancy · 25/03/2010 20:57

Why on earth does Colm Toibin's book have the same cover as Rachel Heath's???????

Why would a publisher do that?

DecorHate · 26/03/2010 16:28

Really? My copies have different covers..

CaptainNancy · 26/03/2010 22:22

They changed the cover of Heath's book for the paperback edition, not sure why, but still.. v v odd.

coveredinsnot · 28/03/2010 21:20

Read all the descriptions of all the books on Amazon, and Secret Scripture was the only one that really appealed to me. The others all sound a bit depressing. Not that that's a bad thing. So, I say - vote Secret Scripture! I'm going to buy it anyway actually.

SuSylvester · 28/03/2010 21:24

no i will read it though

SuSylvester · 28/03/2010 21:26

The publicist said she'd get an answer from him today... I am setting up a shrine beside my computer and lighting votive candles in the hope that he might be able to do it.

are we not onto his agent?

TillyBookClub · 19/04/2010 10:18

Agents wouldn't get involved in setting up interviews/chats - although perhaps they would if we mounted a proper Power of Mumsnet campaign?
