Audio book recommendations, no sex please

I listen to audiobooks in the car with my adult sen daughter. We don't mind swearing, drugs but neither of us like listening to sex scenes.

We've done all the Murder Club, some Fredrik Backman, Children of Time and we loved the last one which was Remarkably Bright Creatures.

I was thinking of The Trial by Rob Rinder (we like cosy crime) or one of the Richard Coles books, but I like non celebrity authors when I read for me.

Has anyone read these please or can recommend any books that don't have sex scenes in them.

Thank you very much

Rivers of London series beautifully narrated by Kobna Holbrook Smith

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
None Of This Is True by Lisa Jewell

my two best audiobooks from last year. Don’t be put off by Project Hail Mary being sci-fi it’s great and my friend who never reads anything like it, loved it.

The two best books I’ve listened to this year are Betty and all the colours of the dark

Funderthighs · 19/07/2025 12:19

I loved Project Hail Mary too!

Ha! I also came to suggest Project Hail Mary. The narrator is incredible!

Edited

Best narrator but probably too much sex

Robert Thorogood has a series of 4 cosy crime books about a group of friends solving mysteries. I think they're quite similar to Thursday Murder Club. The first one is The Marlow Murder Club.

None of This is True works so well as an audio book.

I am also working my way through the Night Watch Discworld audio books. Jon Culshaw reads the audio books which works really well with the different characters' voices.

Miss Benson’s Beetle by Rachel Joyce
My favourite audio book. A story of an unlikely female friendship and beautifully written and narrated.

I also enjoyed the Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by the same author.

I listen to the Strike books on Audible. Robert Glenister does an amazing job. Rather gritty, not ‘cozy crime’.

Also ‘we solve murders’

The Hawthorne books by Anthony Horowitz would be perfect, they’re cosy crime but also beautifully read by Rory Kinnear. He does a fantastic job. I find myself smiling away listening to them.

Murder Most Haunted. Audio is out of this world. Full cast of characters. Cosy and funny with a bit of darkness and emotion.

Miss Benson’s Beetle

I love Terry Pratchett’s disc world. I usually listen to The Hogfather over Christmas.

Seascraper works even better as an audiobook, because the book is partly about writing a song. The audio is narrated by the author, which is always my preference and he sings the song too.
