My DD has been reading the Ella and Olivia series of CJ apter books, now looking for more recommendations…

Also wondering if there are more challenging books and any age recommendations for great chapter books/ books in general that she can read on her own…

thanks 🙏

Roald Dahl is obviously grest my son really enjoyed the Wrigglesbottom primary books by Pamela Buchart.

IMO you can't get better than The Famous Five!

this series of books really got me into reading as a youngster and my just turned 7yo has just fallen in love with them and reading too

Clever Polly and the stupid wolf series by Catherine Storr are great for this age group.

Jill Tomlinson books too: The owl who was afraid of the dark, The hen who wouldn’t give up etc (these are the best two imo).

Just hoping for some more suggestions for books for 7 year old girls. Chapter books or one off.

My daughters loved a book called Twig by Elizabeth Orton Jones at this age too.

Also James Herriot dog stories (really great on audiobook for the car too). They’re very funny and interesting, we’ve listen to this a lot

Fivews · 13/07/2025 11:11

Mine lived the 13 Storey Treehouse series at that age

My daughter is loving the 'boy who grew dragons' series which school have recommended as a summer read before she starts year 3 in September. Also 'the accidental prime minister' and the accidental secret agent are ones she's keen to read too.

rainydaysamonday24 · 24/07/2025 22:48

The Boy who gre dragons looks fun!

any other recommendations - doesn’t have to be book series.

im hoping to expand her reading ability over the Summer.

Isadora Moon
Dave the Pigeon
Dogman
Captain Underpants

Whichhandbag · 06/09/2025 13:50

Isadora Moon, Mirabelle and Emerald - all by the same author. Not high brow but my daughter races through them! She is only just six, though, not sure where exactly they're aimed at.

When my daughter was about that age, she LOVED Magic Tree House - each book makes it feel like an adventure, and they’re not too long. Also A to Z Mysteries is super cute and engaging.

Thank you, that's interesting.

Hi, I've just released my new children's chapter book called ROO AND THE GREAT GARDEN QUEST. It's all about my own dog Roo and her adventures with her garden friends. There are some great fun facts and extras, and there are lots of hand painted (watercolour and ink) illustrations. The kindle version is completely free on 4th October 2025 as a special launch offer !

I've got different series in my collection for different age groups, including rhyming first books, activity books and early readers. You can see all my books at janestanleybooks.com. Hope this is ok to post here.
