Audiobook to replace Thursday Murder Club

So it's one of these per year now and while they are not perfect books I really really enjoy them. I can't think of anything else I have devoured and enjoyed so much in ages... the last one probably was the latest Philip Pullman to be honest. But I want another book to love!

So I'm not especially set on genre but I struggle to find something really genuinely enjoyable. I don't like thrillers or proper crime (murder club is not proper crime), I don't like any sick lit or similar, also I don't want to waste time reading naff chick lit. Nothing tooooo long, I get bored. A lot of bestsellers I find tedious. I need plot. But not too much plot. I also need characters 😅

Any ideas?!?

Try lessons in chemistry
I really enjoyed that, it's well narrated. Smile

American dirt is another one I've recently enjoyed. It's a bit stressful though!

Sorry and Bliss ..Meg Mason. Listened on Audible and loved it.

Frenchfancy · 15/10/2022 14:54

Definitely Lessons in chemistry.

Or the Robert Galbraith books

Great suggestions thank you!

I have considered American dirt but rejected based on the stress factor 😬

If you’ve not already read it, The Word is Murder by Anthony Horowitz

thenorthsea · 19/10/2022 22:41

Thank you! Will check those out

SJ Bennett - HRH Investigates Series.

Easy listen, storylines aren’t very taxing and enjoyable in a frivolous way.

Scarydinosaurs · 26/12/2022 20:39

Oh yes - the Anthony Horrowitz Word is Murder series is excellent.

I also really love his Magpie Murders series.

so clever, lots of characters and decent plot.

slow horses

The Marlow Murder Club by Robert Thorogood reminded me of Thursday Murder Club and Anthony Horrowitz.

thenorthsea · 26/12/2022 21:56

So I'm well into the Horowitz word is murder series and loving it, great shout thank you!

Previously tried Marlow murder club and didn't quite have the tone I was looking for. Gave up on lessons in chemistry 1/3 through, really found it tedious I'm afraid!!

Series on Apple TV is fabulous too

mrcE1 · 19/03/2023 14:10

Janice Hallett’s ‘The Appeal’

thenorthsea · 19/03/2023 20:27

I'm also currently trying the first in the Rivers of London series. Unsure so far - parts of it I like then other parts (eg comments on how much he fancies his colleague) less so
