joining the book club...

Hi I am newish to the mumsnet site. I am an avid reader am excited about hearing recommendations on books to read and joining in possible discussions..I am assuming anyone can join in with this? :)??

Yes, anyone can join in. The new book is usually decided upon at the beginning of the month so the October one should be announced soon :)

hi am quite new on here , is there a thread or section where we can just chat generally about whatever books we have read? Or is it just the book club where we have to all read same book and discuss?
I cant always afford to go out and buy a specific book so tend to look round and pick up books that are on offer or that i have swapped with friends/family

Joining Bookclub is super easy - we announce the Author of the Month and their latest paperback on the homepage at the beginning of each month and then if you can find/borrow/lay hands on a copy, we all read it and then the author comes to chat about the book at the end of the month.

Rose Tremain is coming on next Thursday 20, at 8pm, so come and join us if you want to see what it's like. You don't have to have read the book - you can ask Rose about previous books, her writing life, creative tips, whatever you fancy...

And yup, there are loads of other threads where people discuss what they are reading, probably the best thing to do is do a search on a book you are interested in, or start a thread about your latest read.

Tilly, a bit random but is there a list of books we will be covering this year/ next few months? Or do you decide as you go?
