Boarding schools with proper Saturday school

Was hoping everyone could throw out schools that still have proper Saturday school and sports fixtures these days as it seems some schools have discarded it with rising day pupil numbers.
Starting to look at full boarding options for DC beyond the more well-known heavy hitters. Curious to see what else is out there that still caters primarily to full time boarders.

I'm curious as to why anyone thinks a day/half day of compulsory sport on site on a Saturday is a plus. I believe The Leys School here in Cambridge still has Saturday morning sport and I'm aware of quite a few parents whose children have been quite unhappy about having to be there on Saturdays, also a mass exodus to sixth from college locally because of requirement to do sports at all in sixth form.

Thanks everyone! Located in London and have primarily started researching schools within an hour or two, however, was wanting to cast a wider net. Fine with schools further out as long as they offer good transport links to London.

Less concerned about schools requiring 100% full boarding or participation in certain activities but rather schools offering structure and things to do for boarders on weekends.

Haileybury is within your search area, has Saturday school and fixtures. Mixture of boarding and day pupils.

There are schools on this list which seem to have been mentioned severally. Pls look at Those. Rugby school is 50 mins away from London Euston by train. Oundle School is great but its train to Peterborough and 20 taxi maybe not what you want? Shewsbury Malvern not sure but still very good school

Taunton School does this. The train station is very close walking distance to the school with direct trains from Paddington.

you might find rugby and Oundle quite strict with the boarding as there is no slipping home for a night or a weekend besides the fixed exeats and the holidays.

for that flexibility with full Saturdays I’d look at

ardingly
worth
cranleigh
bradfield college
teddies
bedales
bryanston

Wellington is great but it’s a heavy hitter. The above are mixture of academic entry requirements.these should provide a useful steer. C

good luck.

Christs Hospital would fit the bill - you can take them out for Sunday lunch on non exeat weekends but other than that you need a really good reason for them not to be at school all weekend.

Wells Cathedral School is also a good one as a lot of international and non local musicians so they need to plan activities for Saturday pm and Sunday. Not as easy to get to as CH though as no trains to Wells.

Obeseandashamed · Yesterday 22:03

Repton, Sedbergh, St Peter’s, millfield, Scarborough College, Oundle, Rugby, Taunton and lots more! Is there a particular sport you’re interested in?

StableCable · Yesterday 22:07

Blundells is a full day Saturdays

BotterMon · Yesterday 22:11

Tonbridge (Boys) and Sevenoaks (Co-ed) both have Saturday school.

Toyesrus · Yesterday 22:16

Sherborne- lessons to lunchtime, pm games/matches, evening roll call then generally a social.

ethelredonagoodday · Yesterday 23:15

Bootham and St Peter’s in York. Less than 2hrs by train from london.
