leweston vs sherborne day

Hi, I've just moved to the area and looking for senior schools, at the moment I'm looking at sherborne boys and leweston.
Does anyone have any helpful tips on the strengths of either?
Won't be starting for a couple of years as son is in year 6. Rather not board or at least for the first year, which is why these two as they aren't too far to travel.

Where is he going for Y7&8? I wouldn't view Leweston as a 13+ school, so if you wanted him to go there, there would be no reason for him not to start in Y7.

Hes at a prep that runs until year 8 and I don't really want to move him as he's happy

Ok, well I think the main issue is that Sherborne is a boarding school with a few day boys and Leweston is a day school with added boarding.

Currently as a day-boy at Sherborne you still need to be up for the full package really. They would really rather day-boys were in the house until quite late every evening and in for socials at the weekend. Saturday is a full day just like any other school day and there are also things to do every Sunday- although optional for day boys. If your DS loves being in school with friends and being very busy then this might be right up his street. It is pretty intense during term time though, so it best suits boys with lots of energy who thrive off a full schedule.

As only 100/600 children at Leweston board, I would think it empties out at 5pm ish and there is the option but not the pressure to stay in. Your DS might prefer this if he doesn't want such a busy term-time life.

Ok, that sounds interesting. We have looked at the taunton schools but they are quite far to drive, but similar in the view of boarding school but doing day so coming home at night - Leweston sound as if they finish earlier which I suppose would benefit if they are day students as they would be home earlier. We are further east dorset so Sherborne area is ideal. Hence why we decided Taunton is a bit too far.

Hi there, interesting you ask this as we were looking at the two schools with our children. We have friends that go to Sherborne and there is some uncertainty there with the Sherborne group making staff redundant. We have found Leweston to be excellent and lots of the years are full as the slightly lower fees are attracting lots of parents from more expensive schools. Leweston has so much to offer, fab sport and grounds and brilliant teachers and subjects. My children are very happy and I wish we’d moved them sooner! Inbox me if you want more info x

If you are looking at alternatives, then maybe Millfield, Kings Bruton, Bryanston and Canford should also be looked into? I think between these, Sherborne and Leweston you should find something that works for you, as they are all quite different.

What utter nonsense! The school is thriving with many people leaving local schools to join waiting lists to attend Leweston! Money grabbing is ridiculous and pastoral issues (there are very few) are dealt with very quickly. I’m guessing you are either a troll or keep loosing matches. Stop writing such rubbish.
