Afternoon all - anyone else awaiting sixth form application results this weekend? We’re crossing our fingers and waiting on Charterhouse, Marlborough, Bryanston and Stowe. DD nerves are starting to shred a little at this point….!

What’s her preference, assuming she gets all 4?

Hello @MacaroniSaysShetlandPony How did she get on? Hopefully good news.

Somewhat late (story of my life), we are just starting some sixth form applications with similar schools. Can I ask what she had to do for entrance assessments? Any essays?? My DD has never had an entrance exam, so we are very much in the dark and I'd like to get her thinking a bit in advance. Thankyou.

She was v fortunate to be offered all 4! We are delighted she’ll be taking up a place at Charterhouse.

The process was pretty intense: all of them had entrance exams (except Bryanston), 3 out of 4 had CAT4 tests (Charterhouse didn’t have CAT4) and there were of course interviews too.

The exam papers were based on her choices for A-levels, which we obviously had to decide much earlier than if she weren’t changing school for sixth form. DD sat 3 subject papers at Charterhouse, 2 subject papers at Marlborough and one (English) paper at Stowe. All of them were essay-based subjects for DD, as that’s where her interests lie.

@MacaroniSaysShetlandPony wow! Huge congratulations to your daughter. What a great impression she must have made. Especially pleased that she got her first choice too.

thank you for the info and interesting about CAT4, which I am off to Google. 🙏🏽

Me again! Did you practice/prepare for the CAT4 tests?

Hi @GrumpyMuleFan

All of the schools will tell you that you don’t need to practice or that you can’t. However, people use ATOM or Pretest Plus to build confidence and familiarity with the mechanism of testing. For sixth form, it’s CAT4 G so it’s much harder than the 11+/13+ varieties. The tests are quite expensive to buy and I’m not sure if they really help.

Is your DD looking at entry in 2026?

Hi @MacaroniSaysShetlandPony
Appreciate this is an Okd thread now. Just wondered if you could give any more einfor re the essay questions. Obviously nonspecific as things change, but were the questions quite general for the subject topics or did you do lots of revision beforehand? TIA
