Hello All,

I have only heard good feedback on Kings and generally, but I have specific questions if anyone can help

  • Is it an academic hot house? Or does it accept a broad range of students
  • does it empty out at weekends?
  • do they have a route for USA universities?
  • do kids there get into Oxbridge or Russell Group?
  • any change in its recent reputation with the new head
  • is it similar to Oundle? Charterhouse? Rugby? in terms of academics?

Please share with anything that you think is relevant or useful for a Sixth Form DS entry with an interest in STEM subjects, as I have very limited info

Much appreciated!!

King’s has high academic standards and some fantastic teachers, but I would not describe it as an academic hot house. A range of students are admitted and co-curricular activities are very highly valued. I would say it suits children who are self-motivated and excited by academic learning and a rich range of activities.

There are exeat weekends, when it empties out completely. Otherwise, I believe the houses are busy over weekends but this might vary house-to-house.

For university pathways, to UK and USA, I think it’s best to ask the school directly. There is some info on the school website about which universities last year’s cohort went on to.

My impression is that the new head is fantastic. She comes across as eloquent, thorough and a good listener. She is reputed to be ambitious to raise academic standards, while maintaining the wonderful character and rich co-curriculum offer that the school currently enjoys. It’s very encouraging that she seems to genuinely love the school, including its beautiful location and its community.

I hope this helps.
