Hello everyone,

why is VAT being added onto Private school fees? i am very angered by this decision ,since i have worked for 20 years to send my children privately, and now it looks like i cant afford it. Any opinions/answers please?

And therefore your argument about jealousy doesn't stand up to scrutiny because as far as I'm concerned, people can spend their money on what they please. And it won't pain the vast majority of them to pay a bit more.

Utter nonsense. The vast majority of private school parents can afford the increases, no problem. I call BS on all these sob stories about parents who live on bread and water because their children can't possibly learn in a revolting state school.

There is a recent thread on here where people were asked how much their annual income was if their child was in private schools and most of them stated between £100k and £3 million!

The truth is that they have become accustomed to vulnerable people being the target for all the hits and they now feel that they are entitled to keep on increasing their wealth at the expense of the many. I have no sympathy whatsoever.

Before the it became clear that Labour was going to get in, the majority of people on MN with children in private school would say that private school was only worth it if you could afford to miss the money.

Oh and if you think private schools make children smarter then I question your own thinking skills. You cannot make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. I have a friend whose child got 8 9s and two 8s at the local state secondary.

Totally agree. And no schools “make kids smarter” that’s a ridiculous thing to say. No envy here either as my high achieving state school son is off to a great University and course next month. Private education would have been a waste of money for him.

It doesn’t matter which university your “high achieving son” got into. They’re both good.

As an educated parent earning enough to send your DC to boarding school (or family money) I'm suprised you seem to not be aware of why labour take this view. It's not new news. All private school parents effected and 99% prob thinking about it

I've noted that one local private has moved from £500 a week to £530 a week in Sept. I doubt most parents have noticed much. A full 20% moves £15 to £18k? All the ones I know will find the cash but totally get it - it was us we wouldn't have the extra
