We live overseas and have a couple of issues. We have to relocate soon and my son has dyslexia, discalcula and is dispraxic. He is an average student but adores animals. I think it is time to look at UK options to keep him settled through secondary. We fly into LHR easily and have family support in Surrey.

Any ideas, lovely people. We are looking for somewhere nurturing and enriching not hugely academic. Animals, outside lifea huge plus

Which year would he be going into. Do you want single sex or Co-ed?

Bansheed · 11/07/2023 23:12

Thanknyou! He has just finished year 7. I think co-ed preferred as he has two sisters, but I am not wed to it, if there is a great single sex school.

Have you looked at King Edwards's Whitley. Don't know if The Royal School in Hindhead still does boarding but both are close to each other, in Surrey and reasonably easily reachable from Heathrow and Gatwick.

Thank, I will have a look!

Maybe Claysmore? Is Dorset but v good dyslexia support. Not sure how many full boarders though. That is one thing you’ll want to check as so many now are pretty flexible on boarders going home on Saturday nights.

Thanks, but that is so far away from family support. I think I need to find a education consultant as we are at a bit of a loss this end.

You should absolutely look at Bruern Abbey. They have just opened a senior school. It's a wonderful wonderful place. It's just outside Oxford.

It's single sex and not hugely close to Surrey but it could be worth the effort. It's a really special place. I wish my DS could go but we can't afford it.

Thank you so much. This looks amazing. We met parents of a Moon Hall boy, on holiday. He was so happy there that my son is definitely open to a specialist school
