So the party of Churchill has its first black woman leader. Is this a seminal moment in British history and a powerful symbol about the ambition and aspiration of black women or something to be viewed with caution?

Kemi isn't 'woke' (however that is defined so is that a problem in terms of many young aspirant black women identifying with her?.Does her politics actually in a sense betray how many feel about their experience?

Personally I think the conservative party have made vast strides in terms o inclusivity at some levels but there is something a little jarring about Kemi being surrounded by white wealthy middle aged educated men which is a little jarring.

The Conservative party has had several Asian men in positions of power (Javid, & Sunak). I do not see Kemi Badenoch as being a big step from that. This idea of sucking up to rich white man is ridiculous, did Starmer (white) suck up to an Asian millionaire to get his presents. What has Kemi received like that? Bugger All! IMO.
Most politicians get support from somewhere outside of their family.
Look at the way that the Trade Union's mainly white leaders propelled Jeremy Corbyn to greatness. ASLEF and Fire Brigades Union played a big part recently.

To me the interesting fact is that she is Nigerian, direct from Africa compared to most of the POC in Labour Movement that have come through 200 years of the Caribbean 'filter'. Which might give them something in common but not a hive mind-set as I agree with @Whoyergonnacall .
It is going to be a tough job but I hope she can succeed as a leader.
