This is an old song that I've never been sure how to view as a white woman. Which I get is probably a lot of the point of the video LOL.

But I'm a long time fan of the singer over many decades (yes, I am old) and I have always wondered: did she get it right with this? I kind of want the answer to be yes because to me it seems joyful. But then I wonder is this exploitation/exotification etc?

I guess I'm asking you to do the work for me and I'm sorry. I've tried to do the work for myself. But I've come around and at it several ways and times and I would appreciate your input if you can. Is this video ok?

Which bits are you struggling to get to grips with? I don't quite understand...

@InAFunkyCheapHotel In Latin America, "la negra", "la morena" etc are not racist but slang for beautiful women. The video slots into that theme of a confident beautiful woman so maybe you're putting a non Cuban context that isn't relevant to it? Celia Cruz is an icon.

@InAFunkyCheapHotel , I realised that I did not directly answer your question on exploitation/exotification. I'm originally from that part of the world and have lived in a few Latin American countries. Every third person in Cuba looks like the girl in the video, so certainly not exotic. Also no exploitation either, as in these countries people of both sexes and all races love well shaped "nalgas".

The video just shows a beautiful woman strutting her stuff.
