Heard LBC presenter yesterday wondering why this was not getting more media coverage. Someone suggested that she does not fit the 'perfect' victim stereotype and so the media is not interested.

I certainly don't get a sense of urgency to the investigations into her whereabouts.

I think the police know exactly what has happened to her. And it isn't good.

They are probably waiting for those on bail to crack.

FavouritePi · 17/08/2022 14:38

This case is so troubling, I've been following for a while and keep having to check online to see if there's updates. She looks so vulnerable in recently released photos and CCTV.

In other cases, they made the headlines within days, she has been missing for over a month now. Victims who are minorities do not get reported on equally and there has been a concerning amount of missing people lately that do not seem to turn up and are not talked about via MSM. Surely media reporting increases the likelihood of information and evidence being garnered from the public to help the investigation.

I hope it's not that there's been police errors/delays in the investigation so far or they have no idea what's happened but rather they do know/suspect what's happened and are just seeking further information. Very strange to have arrests for kidnap and murder and then appeals to state she may still be out there.

I'm really hoping she turns up safe.

choosername1234 · 17/08/2022 15:04

I was thinking the same as @PurpleWisteria but the police have also said that they believe she may be in the local area & in need of help. It's a very strange case and deserves so much more media attention. I hope she turns up safely but sadly I'm not really expecting her to

JacquelineCarlyle · 17/08/2022 15:12

I hope she turns up safely. I read an article earlier that said there had been multiple sightings in the local area, so I couldn't follow the story as if that's the case, surely she's not missing and is just an adult going about her business. However the whole thing read very strangely and felt like the article was trying to tell a story that I couldn't understand.

Anyway, I really do hope she is ok.

SuperCamp · 17/08/2022 15:21

Our local area is full of notices asking people to look for her.

The information the police are releasing is very curious so obviously not all is being told. They have already arrested and bailed 5 people, for murder and kidnap, variously, the most recent on Aug 6th.

So obviously early on they had leads or suspicions, and while they were following these there was not a mass 'missing person' campaign.

The police have examined 000s of hours of CCTV footage, I don't get the picture that they are ignoring this case.

Lets hope there is a good outcome. My heart goes out to Owami and her family.

SuperCamp · 17/08/2022 15:29

Can anyone be more explicit about what the 'Specialist Crime Command' does?

news.met.police.uk/news/update-search-to-find-owami-davies-continues-452173

Does it cover ordinary (for want of a better word) abduction and murder? From what I can see they investigate things like Human Exploitation, Organised Crime etc.

Sonnex · 21/08/2022 11:21

I suspect theres a lot more going on behind the scenes here. She's clearly very vulnerable and didn't want to be found when she refused medical assistance when the police in Croydon were called to see her a few days after she disappeared (before Essex police had registered her as missing). The problem is she's an adult and if she doesn't want to go home they can't make her. I wonder if there's some suggestion of a cult type situation she may have got herself into. I hope she's ok and can get to whatever help she needs.

darmaka · 21/08/2022 12:08

What a sad story. I don't think this is getting as much coverage in the media as some cases.

FavouritePi · 21/08/2022 12:27

They've said she's vulnerable and do need to locate her. I suspect they are not confident with the course of action that was taken at the time of their contact with her before this was a high profile case which has lead to the case being referred for review. Perhaps I have this wrong (and I'm happy to be told so) but, if she refused assistance back then and it was dealt with as procedure, wouldn't it be a fairly open and shut case (they'd have the body cam footage along with a report) to back up that she was fine? However, what we have seen from the photo from the body cam footage is that she looked far from OK, it looked like she was distressed. CCTV footage following that also looks like she's disorientated.

If she's going through a mental health crisis as seems to be suggested by the police, she can be held for her own/others wellbeing. Regardless of being a missing person or not, why wasn't she?

However, I do agree that there is definitely a lot more to this case. As time goes on it gets more worrying, you do not want to be left vulnerable in that area of London, or that area of Essex either.

CuppaTeaAndSammich · 23/08/2022 13:40

Been following this news story and wondered if anyone had posted on MN re Owami Davies. So sad and hoping she is found safe very soon!!

Doesn't help when the police can't even issue photos of the correct missing black woman!!

Dobbysgotthesocks · 23/08/2022 16:55

Oh thank goodness!!! I really hope she is really ok and gets whatever help she needs.

mummywithtwokidsplusdog · 23/08/2022 16:56

What a relief- so glad she has been found.

Cornettoninja · 23/08/2022 16:58

That’s excellent news.

It really feels like there’s a lot more to this case but then I don’t suppose it’s the right of the public to know unless it’s police incompetence….

I hope she’s getting whatever she needs now.

IStandWithMaya · 23/08/2022 16:59

So happy she's been found. Hope she's ok.

Choconut · 23/08/2022 17:03

Oh that's good news I'd seen the story and the police seemed to think she may be sleeping rough. So glad she's been found.

GingerScallop · 23/08/2022 17:03

Hope she gets the help she needs poor girl

sorrysaythatagain · 23/08/2022 17:04

It's very sad and infuriating that's Owami is not getting the coverage that some other women have.
On Saturday morning an elderly family friend went missing and I put up posts on my local Facebook groups. Luckily he was found on a bench on the Sunday morning because someone recognised him from the shared pics.

With her being on the news now and posts being up why has no one approached her or call the number and say "hey I think ive seen Owami!" (I'm assuming they haven't).

Also why would they arrest men on suspicion of murder?!

I pray that she is ok

sorrysaythatagain · 23/08/2022 17:05

Oh gosh just as this sent I saw the other posts.

That is amazing!! Her family must be so relieved
