Failed 6th driving test. Can't bring myself to book test 7

Just failed my 6th driving test this morning. I'm absolutely gutted. I drove pretty well, completed the parking manœuvre correctly. However, when we got to the motorway, traffic was pretty slow and the examiner failed me for not having the appropriate distance from the car ahead ( he said I was too close, about a car's length instead of 2).

I feel so embarrassed and such a let down that I can't go ahead with booking test 7.

Any help and support on how to bring up my confidence would be greatly appreciated.

I passed on my 7th....15 years ago now. Cried even examiner told me. I had changed driving instructor about a month before and 7th test was in a diff area. I needed the change. You'll get there. And as pp have said, don't tell anyone when you've booked. 💐

I passed on my 5th try. After my 4th people were shocked that I was still trying. I'm glad I did, you only need to pass once and you have your license. Even if it takes 10 tests, you will have your license for the rest of your life.

Thank you all for your supportive messages and for sharing your own stories with me. It means so much. I have plucked up the courage and booked a test in a different area. I am also looking for a new instructor too.

I learned for a year OP. Don't give up.

It took me three attempts and a switch from manual to automatic to pass mine.

I found driving an automatic possible and didn’t get on at all with driving a manual car, and given the move towards electric vehicles now, that is one option you could consider trying in case it helps you too.

I would like to let you all know that I sat my test today in a different test centre and PASSED with 4 minors! I can't believe it! But I am so glad, I went ahead and booked the test. Thank you all so much for your support.

Well done! I took even more tests to pass than you and changing test centres (to one with simpler routes and smaller roads) made a big difference too

My sister in law passed 7th time. I took 5 tests - it took me 7 years to pass but was so worth it! Stick at it OP & good luck ☘️☘️☘️

Please re book my son takes his fourth test next week. He was totally devastated when he failed his third. But you must must re book , you can do it .

Couldn't read and not reply! You're doing well! I took over 10 tests (I stopped counting when I got to 10!) in the end, my driving instructor said she would pay for my tests and I pay her back for the one that I pass (when it happens) and she did just that, the first one she paid for, I passed! The feeling of achievement was much greater than if I had passed first time (I assume! But I felt wonderful at the time!) it'll be worth it, I promise!
