Are any black women here on HRT

I was just listening to the radio and the guest mentioned women are given antidepressants instead of HRT. (Not specifically black women)

I have not taken anything for menopause but have read that symptoms can be similar to feeling tired, anxiety and depression and some women report they "got their life back" after starting HRT - I've also read negative views but mostly people who have not taken it but are wary.

I wondered if any of you had taken HRT and your experience with it. Thanks

Hi OP,there is a menopause board in the Health section so will be lots of people on there who will have lots of info.
A friend is using a gel to rub into the skin for her HRT,she can manage it herself and adjust it accordingly.
Did you see the Davina documentary? It spoke a lot about Dr’s prescribing anti depressants rather than HRT.

Thanks for the bumps

@CimCardashian thanks and that's helpful - I will watch the Davina doc.

I was trying to spark a debate amongst black women as I would like to hear and share experiences. There is a lot of information out there but there might be additional information or experiences within the family that are being or have been used in Africa or the Caribbean which is proving to work. Or they might be using HRT which they find just as effective.

Hi,

Yes I am on HRT.

My GP was trying to steer me towards antidepressants and "natural remedies", but I stood firm and insisted on being prescribed HRT.

HRT works for me, it's eliminated the hot sweats, depression, insomnia, tiredness, food cravings, brain fog and the crushing anxiety I was experiencing. I feel like the me I was in my early 30's. I wish I'd started HRT years ago!

There's a lovely lady called Karen Arthur who runs a podcast called menopause whilst black (also look for her on Instagram). She has built a community and resources regarding menopause specifically for black women.

I haven't watched the documentary by Davina but I know that Karen Arthur was on the program.

I've never thought to look on the health board. I'm going to have a look right now.

Thankyou.

AD's should not be prescribed for anxiety due to peri/menopause, as they can actually make the problem worse.
