And they wonder why they are called the "Nasty Party"....

First a disclaimer

Just in case this thread pops up in “Active”. This is a contribution to the Black Mumsnetters board which was established to be a safe space for black women and allies to discuss issues of interest black women, from racism to African history, from black hair care to culture-specific issues in relationships. If you feel triggered, nothing here is an attack on you. I would hate for a thread centering black experience to be hijacked so that it ends about centering those who may have hurt feelings because this discussion may be uncomfortable for them. Thank you!

On to my issue

So sportsmen making a clear demonstration against racism, including some of it aimed directly at them, are like Nazis?

I guess that party want more people like this football supporter voting for them -

Yep the nasty party all right, with an incompetent, vile racist at the helm. I am just waiting to see how nothing will be done about what Brendan Clarke-Smith has said.

DastardlytheFriendlyMutt · 09/06/2021 01:11

As long as people deflect about racism being a "political opinion" and not a dehumanising violent ethos that leads to hate crimes, murder and hundreds of years of theft, violence and rape, this stupid eejits will have a platform and it will have followers.

Someone told me that they thrive despite having harmful policies because people vote for them because they hate who they hate despite it being turkeys voting for Christmas

As a Jew, I find this comparison extremely offensive, and as a football fan, I wish the Tories would take their culture war bullshit and shove it. I'm sick and tired of it. Just now, we've got yet another bloody thread on here with people complaining about 'woke culture' because of some picture being taken down. The game has enough problems as it is without the Tories stirring things up (and on the subject of sport, I'm glad Mark Ramprakash called Johnson out for getting involved in the story about that England player's tweets). Good on Gareth Southgate for sticking up for his players. Several of the England team are black/mixed-race: Sterling, Phillips, Calvert-Lewin, Rashford, Sancho, James, Saka, Bellingham, Mings off the top of my head. How must they feel hearing the booing? And saying taking the knee is alienating (white) working-class fans: how? There are plenty of things about the modern game that alienate working-class fans, such as greedy twats like Mike Ashley or obscene ticket prices.

I do not want to go back to the days when black players were sent bullets in the post when they got their England call-ups, which is what happened to Cyrille Regis.

As @DastardlytheFriendlyMutt says, racism is not just an 'opinion', and you're bang on about voting - there are plenty of white Republican voters who are poor and/or marginalised in some way, directly harmed by the party's policies, but they vote Republican because they hate black people so much that anything that harms them is fine as far as they're concerned. This turd should fuck off to Italy and follow Lazio, I think he'd like them.

I'm not a new or a football fan, but I agree with every single word you've written.

Completely agree - and these white working class fans are 100% marginalised by The Tory party with cuts on spending which exclusive then from much more important things than football.

In addition - human rights is not a marginalising issue. Racism isn’t a ‘black’ issue anymore than rape is a female issue. It’s a social issue that we all need to engage with and sort out.
