Product for dreadlocs short afro hair

Hi can anyone recommend a product to start locs on very short afro hair, please? Bought cantu twist and loc gel but I don’t think it is the right product for what I want.

I never started my sons locks but I have gone on to maintain it for 7years. I use a variety of things but mainly all natural. One I quite like is flaxseed. I put some seeds and bring to a boil. It needs to be quite thick and gooey. I use very small amounts and add essential oils. You can YouTube this.
