Forum for black families in Independent School

Hi - does anyone know if there is a forum for black parents with children at independent schools. Or if there are any forums for black children at independent schools. I'm not thinking of forums closed to the group attending a specific school, but an open forum for families attending any private school where parents at different schools can communicate with each other. I've googled but could not find anything. TIA

@Denzelstowel, I've not heard of one, but I'm sure it would be popular.

Did you find any @Denzelstowel?

Hmm … 🤔

If you feel the need for such a thing then, clearly, the need exists. But I do wonder … In my experience the black parents of children at say, a major public school (full boarding, international clientele) are more likely to feel connected to, and form associations with, other parents at their own and other similar schools. (Not necessarily other black parents.) They won’t feel their school experience as parents has much in common with that of people at, say, a small local independent day school, regardless of racial background. So, even if such a forum existed it might be a bit … stratified. (I do know how this will read. But I know what I’m talking about.)

I can see the benefits of a central source of information on schools at the point where people are considering applying. That might be useful.

Happy to contribute to one. Maybe we can just start it here?

Often black children will be in an extreme minority at independent school. Mine is, so I think it could be quite helpful to connect with black parents in a similar situation. Also, to discuss senior school transition - which is the most welcoming of diverse families, etc.

I agree this board is exactly where people should feel able to find additional information on schools - combined with threads under ‘Education’.

Fretfulmum · 18/12/2021 14:36

It’d be useful to discuss schools we are also interested in. But I don’t think I’d find it very useful if the discussions were about schools that we aren’t looking at

I'm in the London area if that helps. Visited quite a few senior schools. Happy to share what I know.

@LiterallyKnowsBest
I do know what you mean and understand your point - I was thinking a forum for families so parents and children on the same site but different pages IYSWIM. So something like Mumsnet, which has dadsnet and gransnet etc but the reason I wanted children included was precisely because they are in a minority in their schools so this could also be a way for them to make connections with others across different schools.

@Denzelstowel, teenagers are already connecting with others across different schools using Snap, Instagram and Tiktok.
