Anyone triggered by racism but do not know how to articulate it

Racism triggers me to a point I no longer open many posts with "racism" as title on MN.

I deliberately skip anti-racism hashtags on social media/news/papers,etc, because it is my life - it is personal - I can't articulate how horrific it is to experience racism.

Racism shuts me down.

This thread is for everyone who can't articulate how racism makes them feel - let's gather here.

It sounds like you might benefit from some counselling/therapy to help you come to terms with the incidents/trauma that you've been through.

There is an association of Black therapists that you may find helpful www.baatn.org.uk

I can’t speak on this as I’m white and have never experienced racism. My husband is black, he’s the same as you. He doesn’t really speak about it but even when he does he never says how it feels or takes a personal approach. He first experienced racism at 5 years old. I think he has shut down to it too. He has said, nothing will change so what’s the purchase for us to talk about it.

I hope more people come along that can share more experience with you

I would agree with @Starseeking would some therapy help. Regardless of the trigger I believe some form of therapy ( from accredited providers) can help.

Sorry you're feeling this way.

I cannot watch films or read about slavery. Not even take part in a discussion of it. Even the thought of doing so triggers me to the point of a headache, and high level anxiety

I have family and friends around me who understand what's going on. So we can chat and vent to each other, which is a help. I find BMN helpful too.

Hopefully could be helpful for you too?
