So about time we had some prime time coverage of black women’s experience in pregnancy and childbirth. Hopefully the shocking stats can open up the debate further into the overall experience of black women with healthcare in the UK.
But will you still watch it, now that it’ll be presented by Rochelle Humes instead of Candice Brathwaite?

Dark-skinned women are not looking to be pitied; we want to be heard and not dismissed. We should be allowed to be at the forefront of our trauma and tell our own stories.

I agree with everything that Yewande said. It's odd that there was a single unambiguously dark-skinned Black woman in the running for the documentary. Wanting a presenter to be removed from the subject matter particularly one that is life and death for us Black women (speaking as someone who almost died during labour due to negligence) smacks of trivialising an issue that is of actual importance to us and being talked at or down to.

It is important to bring this up. When people say "you are being divisive by bringing this up", "you make us look stupid in front of other races by not showing a united front" or as aptly put by PP "can we stop with this not black enough crap" you are asking DSBW to keep quiet and keep being sidelined to keep the peace and refusing to hear us on issues that affect us directly and more so as health outcomes decrease for unambiguously black women.

RH was absolutely the wrong choice. We can argue about whether or not CB should have been chosen by RH should absolutely not have been chosen just for the lack of qualifications alone trivialising the subject matter as you don't even care enough to get someone well versed in the matter or someone with some journalistic experience or scientific/medical background or gravitas for the role. You cannot convince in any alternate universe why RH should have been a choice for this role.
