Scan says I'm 6 weeks, my date is 8 weeks going into 9.

Hi

I have already asked this question on the August thread and just wanted to put it out there in the Anti-natal threads to see if anyone else has had experience of this?

With thanks to oonaghbhuna,babybump2be, pinkypanther and kanuck who have already replied.

Had my scan yesterday and am confused.

My last period was the 5th of November and I calculate it out that I would be going into 9 weeks yesterday. Last year after my miscarriage my dates ranged from 28days to up to 45days for my period to arrive but they when went back eventually to a regular 28/29 days and had been like that for months. I was due 2nd of December and got my BFP on the 3rd of December.

At the hospital I had to have a vaginal scan and we got to see the baby and a heartbeat but according to the measurements I am 6 weeks. The midwife explained that they do not ask for the last date of period anymore and take the measurement as what week I am. I have a follow up scan now for next Tuesday.
The measurements on the notes they have gave me and the baby measured 3.3mm.

Does this seem credible? I am worried. I would appreciate your honest opinions. I am grateful that we saw the baby and a heartbeat I am just a bit hung up on thinking I was starting the ninth week yesterday.

Many thanks in advance for your replies.

I had a similiar experience. I went in on end of 14th week, beginning of 15th for scan and they measured baby and said I was 'only JUST 12 weeks'
Interestingly enough as the pregnancy has progressed the dates are now closer. I went in for my 20 week as they called it, 23 as I called it, and the babe was 21.5 weeks... I personally think the dates/weeks are rather arbitrary and in all honesty they don't end up meaning alot because your babe may be early or late any how.
I'm keeping track of both dates and I'll see who's closer.

And don't/try not to stress or worry, if heartbeat is there then things are progressing one way or another.

same here - went in thinking it was 8 weeks was told it was 6 weeks plus 3 - and like bleuravin as scans went on they showed by about 16 weeks my dates (not the original ones). The margin of difference is so teeny at 6/8 weeks that any small measure can throw the dates by quite a lot.

and as bleu says if there is a heart beat its a v.good sign (and do appreciate how horrible it is - felt sick at every scan right up to 38 weeks but dd is just fine)

Thanks Poppy34 and Starlightmckenzie

I know I ought to focus on the positive that I saw a heartbeat.

Starlight I have miscarried twice and this is the first time we have saw a heartbeat. In the past (we have been trying for 3 years) I was becoming slightly obsessive with the whole process, OPK'S, temps, excel spreadsheetetc that we decided that we should BD from Day 6 and every other second day so I cannot pinpoint a date of conception.

amelied I wondered if that was it - I was in same position as you -2 mmc where found out at early scans and a later diagnosis of abnormalities... but try to think that this is different and heartbeat big step forward. have you got another scan booked?

Poppy34 - good morning!

My first miscarriage was a natural one and my second last August was a mmc.

I have another scan next Tuesday at 10am.
