C-section

Hi, I was just wanting to see from other women how long after their c-section did your period arrive? I’m 5 weeks in and haven’t got it yet, but slightly worried as I’ve heard that your periods can be worse after having a C-section.
also another question, please don’t judge me for this part, but I didn’t breast feed due to health reasons, how long did it take for people who didn’t breast feed for their milk to dry up? As I’m constantly wearing a supportive bra with pads.

any advice for either of these would be great.
thank you x

Congratulations on your baby.

When periods return is very individual. For some women it will be 4 weeks after their pp bleed ends, for others it could be anywhere up to a year. If your milk hasn’t dried up yet then that could also be delaying things.

Some women do find that their periods change after birth (any type of birth as it’s pregnancy rather than the birth that impacts) For some they may become more or less regular, more or less painful, more or less heavy.

As for the milk. It can depend on the woman and if any milk is being removed. Are you hand expressing for comfort or just leaving them alone? You can try taking a decongestant like lemsip or any OTC cold medicine. That can dry up milk. Also the contraceptive pill can do it and can be prescribed at your 6 week check.
