I just wondered if anyone has been told at the 20+ week scan that they where having a Girl and it turned out to be a boy or the other way round.
Thanks for any replies

Hi,
Not a personal experience, but someone I know was told they were having a boy and then had a girl (they told me this when I was pg with ds so I spent the rest of the pg worrying whether he actually would be a boy or not - he was!).

It does happen, but afaik they are more likely to get it wrong when it's a girl as boys bits are easier to see.

FoghornLeghorn · 16/01/2008 09:17

No personal experience but did was 'Baes in the Wood' once when they were told they were having a boy but had a girl.

DH & I are contemplating whether to find out or not and because of this I don't know if I would trust whatever answer we got

FoghornLeghorn · 16/01/2008 09:18

did watch 'Babes in the Wood'

elesbells · 16/01/2008 09:19

Mine was right (a girl) But I was in the ward with a woman who was told hers was a girl and she had a boy. She already had three boys and was very upset.

I was told it wasn't 100% though.

lulumama · 16/01/2008 09:19

I have a boy & a girl, I was told the gender with both at each 20 week scan, and was right both times. My friend was told she was having a boy, and had a girl.....other than that, everyone else who has been told has had what they were told they were having!

FoghornLeghorn · 16/01/2008 09:20

Think the statistics are 97% accurate

bogie · 16/01/2008 09:20

they got it right with me

bodiddly · 16/01/2008 09:21

they got mine right too! but I found out at a detailed scan because of feared problems rather at the regular 20 week scan.

Marne · 16/01/2008 09:22

I was told with dd1 that they were 80% sure it was a girl, and with dd2 they were sure it was a girl, i did'nt believe them as i wanted a boy

BibiThree · 16/01/2008 09:22

they got all 3 of my girls right

sweetbean · 16/01/2008 09:22

Hospital right with first two boys and dh right with the third boy (policy changed between ds2 and 3 but they paused and allowed dh to have a good look).

mustsleep · 16/01/2008 09:39

i have been told correctly both times and have one of each, but spent each time worrying if the shops would swap the clothes for the other genders if they were wrong especially with the pink pushchair!!

MerlinsBeard · 16/01/2008 09:41

they couldn't see with ds1, were right with ds2 and we will see with (supposed) ds3! Am having another scan next week so will get them to have a look

They say at our hosp that they can only be 70% certain anyway

preggersagain · 16/01/2008 09:47

they got all of mine right dts's at 20 weeks scan, dd at 16 weeks, checked again at 30 weeks, dtd's at 20, 24, 28 week scans- good job too as i had decorated the nursery pink and bought everything in pink!!!

sweetbean · 16/01/2008 10:35

Would be intersetd to see who else got it wrong??

Could we revive the thread!?!?

bekkaboo · 31/03/2009 19:15

I know of one person that it was wrong. Although they were told I think its a girl but... DONT out money of it as not that sure!! So decide for self as to whether they were wrong.

daisy5 · 31/03/2009 23:26

hi sweetbroody - I don't know anyone who has been told incorrectly. At my 20 week scan I questioned if she was absolutely sure it was a boy and so she did a close up on the critical area and the shape was so pronounced that we all laughed. I know girls can have enlarged labias but hopefully not quite that large or that shape???!!!

minimenace · 16/04/2009 09:53

I don't know if it's right or not but someone told me that they look for girls ovaries on the scan to verify that it will be a girl.

no experience though as mine both suprises !!

Pinkjenny · 16/04/2009 09:55

They got it right with me. I wasn't convinced until dd was born though!

Casserole · 16/04/2009 11:00

They got it wrong with me! Told me I was having a girl and then, however many months later... out popped my son!!

Luckily, I was fine with it when he was born... he was here and he was him and well, gorgeous I did call him "her" for about a week because I was just so tired and confused and my brain took a while to rewire!

LadyOfWaffle · 16/04/2009 11:12

I was told a girl... it was a boy
