Any Mums to be in the Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire area?

Hi,
I am having real trouble finding any anti natal groups in my area or any other mums to be due around Nov / Dec time.

I would really like to meet some other mums to be in my area especially as this is my first baby.

Does anyone know of any clubs in my area? Or any way that I can meet other mums.

Getting a bit desperate.......

Why not try your local NCT - www.nct.org.uk
or alternatively contact your local council and ask them for a list of ante natal groups in your area. Your midwife or your GP might also be good sources of information.

I am in the harefield area and have also had a nightmare trying to find a pregnant yoga class ! My MF suggested a website called "information for mums" but have tried a variety of different combinations and been unsuccessful in finding anything! My SIL has met loads of mums in the oxford area by going onto www.netmums.com but don't know if its any good for Ricky?

I am starting my NCT classes next week and am going to ask them about yoga classes will update you with any news.

Sorry that should say MW and not MF !! I wonder what MF could stand for i get so confused with all these abbreviations !

Louise01 · 28/06/2007 17:25

Thanks for the advice. I followed it all up by first speaking to my MW. She told me that there was no anti natal classes in Rickansworth which actually I don't think is too clever espcially for women having their first baby.

To cut a long story short I contacted the NCT and have got on a course although it is in Watford (not too far away). I managed to get the last place so feeling quite lucky.

Gotta say though how disappointed I am at the whole issue. Where I live the hospital has now withdrawn all anti natal classes since last December. So I am faced with forking out £204 to get information which is especially important to first time mothers. Don't get me wrong I am not having a go at the private anti natal courses, but it does deeply convern me that there are first time mothers out there that won't get information that could be extremely usefult to them simply because they can't afford it when maybe it should be given to all mothers free as part and parcel of pregnancy.

Anyway, only joined up today and standing on my soap box already!!! Sorry!!

Anyone got any comments?

I am quite horrified that the hospital does not offer ante natal classes, is this the hospital that you are planning to give birth in. I made some fantastic friends at the ante natal classes, of which we are still very friendly now (5 years later), hopefully you will get the same from your nct classes.

Our area also does first time mum classes for when you have newborns, which was really good, it was run by nursery nurses so we had access to lots of information and they had guest speakers every couple of weeks.

I'm also in Hertfordshire.

Where in Herts are you? Can't you two get together?

lisad123 · 29/06/2007 12:10

I would love to meet upwith anyone, but my SPD means im unable to drive, and house bond most days unless a family memeber takes pity on me and takes me out.

where are you in Herts lisa?

lisad123 · 29/06/2007 13:23

Stevenage

Louise01 · 02/07/2007 10:02

I am all for getting to know other people in my area over and above my anti natal class.

Hertfordshire is massive and I think Stevenage is a bit too far

My areas would be Rickmansworth, Watford, Harefield, Denham or Hillingdon (not in Herts)

Anyone ever heard of the Epilepsy and Pregnancy Register? I would like to register with them, but can't get through on the phone number on their website

I found some pregnancy yoga classes in watford and they were brilliant with a lady called Claire Murphy. Her website is www.esprit-yoga.com there is also a lady teaching pregnancy yoga in the Chalfont area you can find her details by searching on the birthlight website www.birthlight.com My little one is now nearly one - I found pregnancy yoga a god send. I used to live in Uxbridge and went to NCT at Hillingdon Hospital - not sure if still running? Good luck to you all!

Mattesdon · 16/11/2007 20:25

Louise, There is an NCT group that meets in Little Chalfont on a Thursday called Bumps and Babes.

They meet at the village hall at 10am and there is usually a speaker. You pay a little bit to cover tea etc.

I don't know where abouts you are but I know you'd be more than welcome, pregnant or with baby.

There is a lady in Little Chalfont who does pregnancy and baby yoga, I don't know if this is the same one but her name is Choi van Rest and a friend of mine said she was wonderful. Unfortunately, I have had SPD throughout the pregnancy so ypga has not been an option. I am hoping to join her for baby yoga though.

Hope this helps

Hello! I know this thread is a bit old now so not sure if anybody will read this. Anyway, I am in Uxbridge/Denham and wouldn't mind talking to others in the area, not too far from rikky at all.

I have done pregnancy yoga classes, I did them at hygrove pool in ruislip/eastcote. Only just finished them and thought they were great. They do 10week courses for £55. Run on a sunday, I really enjoyed it.

Anyway, I am pregnant with my first baby, due 23rd dec - this sunday coming! If anybody still wanted to meet with any new mums in the area, maybe we could arrange something in the new year?
