Hi there. I am new to this site and due to have my first baby on 1st July. I just wondered if there were any social meets for mums to be in the Manchester area? I'm nervous about the whole thing and would be lovely to be able to meet and chat with other people in my situation.
Thanks very much

Andrea

PM me.

Hi Andrea. I'm based in Altrincham and new to the area. I've lived here since last July. I'm due on July 9th so very close to your EDD.

Have you signed up for NCT? I haven't looked for much else yet but perhaps if we put our heads together we can find something? Perhaps join the July 2015 antenatal thread too?

bullseyebraces · 24/02/2015 14:21

sorry, DC needed me, posted quickly in case I forgot to come back to this thread!

I'm in sunny St. Retford, expecting my third around 2nd July. I second Zampa recommendation of NCT, I did NCT classes with my first & it was a great way of meeting local mums. I moved here when I was about 36w pregnant with DC2, but have made friends through playgroups etc, a baby is a great social introduction Smile

Whereabouts are you, Andrea?

Andrea2000 · 24/02/2015 14:21

Hi Zampa. I have looked on NCT but didn't see anything for the area. I know there are things for once you have the baby but wanted to meet some new people before then. I will also join the July 2015 group and let you know if I find anything out.
Thanks!

Also, if you are at all inclined towards this sort of thing, there is a La Leche League that meets twice fortnightly (one in Cheadle, one in Whalley Range), and a Positive Birth group that meets ?monthly in Altrincham. Both are things you can attend while pregnant to talk & meet other parents etc.

Hi bullseyebraces. Thanks for replying. Won't ask where your name is from. Haha. I'm also in sunny St Retford. Am I best joining an antenatal class then?

I'm going along to the NCT class for July and August babies in Hale, which starts in mid June. There was another being held in Altrincham around the same time but perhaps there's one closer to you. The classes aren't cheap but as I don't know many people around here, I though that it might help me find some friends!

I'm also starting some ante natal yoga classes in Hale next week. Perhaps there are some exercise groups near you?

bullseyebraces Thanks for flagging the positive birth group in Altrincham. I've found them online so will try and go along to the March meeting.

Sounds like you are making progress Zampa. I have been going to yoga in sale which is really good. I have enquired about the antenatal classes at NCT in sale. Will see if they have spare places for May. I know what you mean, it does look expensive but probably worth it if it gives you some confidence and also meet new people. Good luck!

And to you Andrea!

I'm in Altrincham, I had a baby last year in May and now due a 2nd in June this year! I must be mental! Anyway I signed up for the ante natal NHS classes at Timperley last year and still see the mums from there at least once a week, we go to rhyme times, baby clubs and all sorts now. My advice would be to sign up for something like that as you'll get friendly with women who are all around the same due date as you and it's great for the babies to interact with each other. I'll be needing to make a new set of friends soon as all of the other ladies I know will be going back to work.
