Right, I have a half hour 'window' I think, so I thought it was time I updated my birth announcement as Amelia is now 2 weeks old!!
I went into hospital on Monday the 11th as Amelia's heart rate was thought to be slow. I was hoping to be induced early but they monitored us regularly and I stayed in until the scheduled induction which was to be on Thursday the 14th!. Induction started and within an hour I was contracting every 2/3 mins. This carried on for about 24 hours and they wouldn't give me another prostin as the contractions were too strong and too close together but I wasn't dilating. So, all pain with no gain. I was given another prostin on Friday and then again on Saturday having fasted for about 12 hours in case a c/s was needed. COntractions continued at the same rate too. I still wasn't dilating and had to fast again through Saturday night with no progress made really by Sunday morning.
So, at 12:30 was taken down for my c/s. The anaethsatist (sp) managed to hit a nerve putting my vemflon in and my arm swelled up so she tried again in the other arm. When it went in, it bled so much, she said she'd perfomred her op for the day. It then took her 4 goes to get the spinal in. By this time I was sitting thinking, omg, and these people are about to cut me open!!!! Anyway, it all went fine. Very odd sensation though and out my beautiful Amelia popped at 12:56pm. I just remember saying very loudly, oh she's so beautiful, even though I didn't know then that she was a girl, she just looked like one. They confirmed a few minutes later that she was. She has her daddy's eyes most definately, (one of the things about him that made me all me go all tingly) but i'm still undecided as to whether she has inherited his nose!!
She weighed (huh) 7lb 14oz apparently. But, the hospital scales weren't put back to zero so i'm not really certain of her correct weight. The hospital I transferred to said there's been a few discrepancies like this before. This all sounds like 1 long winge. She is absolutely gorgeous and more than I could've hoped for but sadly my experience in hospital is not one that I wish to repeat quite honestly and I was so glad when we came home last Sunday. She is doing really well, although her weight is still very much up and down but we're persevering with the b/f. I'm going to try and post a picture or two of her on here but it may take me another week to figure it out.
Thank you all so much for your kind wishes and special thanks to Lou for posting. Sorry i've not emailed you yet but you know how it is
