Yep a little boy. Nathan Edward

Born at 13.15 today

Weighing in at 7lb 13oz's

Length 51cms.

Thats the good news, will continue details after the bad news.

DH's Granddad went into hospital on xmas eve, with an abdominal mass, after the crappiest xmas day, a phone call this morning to tell us he passed away (8.15am).

I woke up at 4am with back ache, then again at 8am, 8.15am I started getting contractions, I went into hospital at 10am, monitored then about 11.30am contractions came on good and strong. Had gas & air for most of contractions, then had pethidine, finally Nathan was born at 13.15pm.

We had decided on Nathan Edward, but it now means more to the family as Grandad was called Edward.

Fairly easy labour, after 2 hours of birth Paed came, checked over baby and I was allowed to come home. I was having a lovely bath.

Similiarities between DS's

Dominic 6lb 13oz's 50 cms 2.01am 6th
Nathan 7lb 13oz's 51 cms 1.15pm 26th

Both born on a sunday, with a 6th in their birthdays.

Congratulations! Love the name. Sorry to hear about grandad. Perhaps grandad's best qualities will have passed on to Nathan (if you believe in that sort of thing).

So sorry to hear about dh's granddad, but delighted to hear of the safe arrival of Nathan. How are you feeling? I hope you're doing OK and getting lots of rest!

prufRockingAroundtheXmasTree · 28/12/2004 13:52

Congratulations. My sister was born on the day my Grandad died and I know that having a new life in the family really helped my Dad and Grandma.

And I think you do get the award for quickest post birth post.

PotPourri · 29/12/2004 15:25

Wow, very impressed with how quickly your labour, birth and discharge was, and of course your posting on MN! Big welcome to little Nathan Edward - what a lovely name, and I am sure his great grandad would be very proud. Sorry for your loss. I wish you much joy with your little bundle.

RonnieTinselBaby · 29/12/2004 17:32

Hiya ladies, now back in the land of the living, after first few nights at home, he is really good, he beeen feeding between 3 - 6 hours intervals, but playing up a bit at night. Last night was wonderful, after feeding Nath at 3am, we fell asleep and both Nath & I woke up at 9.15am . When I spoke to my MW today about the night activities, we had thought about a bottle of formula for his 11pm - 12am feed so he can settle more, otherwise, he keeps wanting me, from 10pm, 11.30pm, 1.30am, 3am, but then last from there til morning, MW said maybe it was a good idea, but every other feed is still me , Dh & I are both happy about that, so we will try tonight, fingers crossed.

I love the name Nathan - always have, and DS1 is Dominic John, Dominic as it is similiar to my dads first name (Donald), I know you might think, eh??? but when shortened to DOM, it sounds like DON which is what my dad was always called, and Dom has John as 2 grandad's middle names are/were John and GGrandad was call John too.

Dom loves his baby brother, always wants to hold him and cuddle him, loves being a big brother too, I knew it would hit him when Nath was born, uptil then he didnt really care or know what to feel.

If you want to have a look at Nath & Dom, here is Nathan [Grin]

Well off to finish sorting out things.

Thanks very much to everyone for their kind words & wishes.

Mother-outlaw believes that Great Grandad moved over to let Nathan into this world, which is what I had previously said on another thread. I think this is also helping her grieving process too.

The family are sad but not dwelling on the death, but his funeral will be in January and that will be upsetting for all, but 96 years is a fantastic age, I only wish I will get even close to that.
