Changing baby’s name after announcement

So, we decided to call our little man Raymond after his grandad. We’ve not registered him yet and I’m growing to dislike the name, Ray for short. Our other options were Harris or Matthew. However, if we change the name now and use Raymond as a middle name, will grandad be offended?

It’s a bit tough having a name for a whole lifetime just because your parents didn’t want to offend someone!

Change it.

Yeah

Bells3032 · 17/12/2021 18:34

Only you can tell us that. None of us know his grandad. We can't tell you how sensitive it is. But maybe tell him you found it a bit odd calling them both the same name so you're still honouring him with a middle name

I love Raymond!!!

sleepyhoglet · 18/12/2021 21:53

Ray is great. It just takes a little getting used to

Yes

will grandad be offended?

We don't know him. Mine would have been sad and disappointed, and tried to hide it. Which would have been MUCH worse.

StressyWoman · 02/03/2022 02:30

Just say you’ve decided Raymond doesn’t suit him and he’s Harris Raymond or Matthew Raymond. Even if Grandad is offended it won’t last long and it’s more important you like your babies name x

AlJalilia · 02/03/2022 02:55

Raymond is so cool!!!

Bez3627 · 02/03/2022 03:02

I like the vintage vibe of Raymond. Refreshing after ten million Oscars and Olivers.

But it's hard to know if your Dad/partner's Dad will be offended. How excited or proud was he when you announced the name?

Starryskiesinthesky · 02/03/2022 03:34

Change it and just explain it as he didn't suit it. Harris & Matthew are both lovely names.

Topseyt · 02/03/2022 03:40

Only you know the answer to your question. Only you know the person involved.

Personally, I would think that having Raymond as a middle name could be a fair compromise.

I like Harris Raymond.

If you told him, then yeah, I expect he’ll be upset. But that said, don’t saddle the kid with a name you don’t like just to avoid upsetting someone.
