Well to make a short story short. . . .

Wednesday morning I noticed that my bloody show that had been coming since Tuesday afternoon had turned bright red, so I called the doctor around 5:30 am. She first said to make an appointment and go in later but changed her mind and said "Go to the hospital sooner rather than later". So I drove myself in thinking that they were just going to send me home.
So I arrived at triage around 7am. Having had what I thought were Braxton Hicks contractions. The nurse checked my cervix at 8:30 and the nurse said I was only 1cm (had been for about two weeks). Finally a doctor showed up, (my least favorite in the ob/gyn practice I go to) She did the most painful internal exam ever and said "You're only 3cm" around 9:30, but she said that I should get checked in and they would break my water later. So around 10am I got checked in to the hospital room, I unpacked my bags and was noticing the contractions were coming closer together, but not too strong. Around 11am the contractions were getting stronger and a lot closer together.
The doctor showed up at 12:30 to break my water. She took one look and said, "Get everything ready, she's at 7cm and once I rupture the membranes it's going to go by fast" She ruptured the membranes, which was totally painful (wasn't with ds1 so am thinking this woman likes to inflict pain on people at this point).
20 minutes after she broke my waters I started pushing. While pushing the doctor is manually "opening" my perenium. Again totally painful. She started yelling at me that I wasn't pushing correctly and I needed to relax. I yelled back saying that it wasn't the baby coming out that hurt, it was her that was hurting me. The baby's heart rate dropped to about 80 at which time she yelled that I had to get him out. So with 3 mighty pushes ds2 was born with his cord wrapped tightly around his neck. 25 minutes later ds2 was born.

So after 2.5 hours of "official hard labor" . . .

Cruz Patrick Garcia was born at 1:25pm on Wednesday. He weighed in at 7lbs 10 oz, and is 20.5 inches long. He loves his mommy and breastfeeds like a pro. I couldn't ask for anything more.

Many congratulations!

And why do the docs in USA still think it's vital that they break your waters? It's totally unnatural!

Anyway, you managed to stick up for yourself, which is great! Welcome to Cruz, enjoy your babymoon together!

Lwatkins · 27/05/2007 17:25
