Ernie was born at 10.17am Monday 16 April at Royal United Hospital Bath weighing in at 9lbs 8 oz and Octo has fallen in love!
Well... it all started about 3 weeks ago when started the practise runs ... spectators will know how torturous the last few weeks have been - but it really did start on Monday morning at about 2am when woke up to contractions.
Decided to come downstairs and play about on mn, watch tv, rock on ball and stick on tens machine. It was very obvious early on that the rocking at the tens machine were not really helping - but was still not sure if it was the real thing - so just stuck it out til 6am when decided it was real and rang the grandparents (live 2 hours away!) to come.
Managed to stand up for each contraction and rock against my wardrobe amazingly - it did seem to help and managed some breathing!
Had bath - that made no difference to the pain either, took paracetomol - no effect - so rang hospital ... currently every 4 minutes at about 30 secs long ...
The midwife said that when they get to one minute should come in ... also not ro rush as waters had not broken and had no show (last labour was very long) and as they had said he was back to back on saturday also said it was unlikely he would be in a rush!
Grandparents arrived at 9am, dh took ds2 to playgroup, waters broke at 9.15am and they had meconium in - rang hospital to say on way - dh arrived home - was very obvious at this point he was COMING NOW!!!! At 9.35am whizzzed into RUH, but I refused to get out of car in the ambulance bay as in so much pain - dh got midwife x 2 and wheelchair who coaxed me out of car saying didn't want to have in carpark!
Now 10am ...
Then whilst yelling, screaming and trying to breathe they pushed me straight into delivery.
At this point I was yelling so loudly and flailing around like a banshee demanding pain relief - they gave me the gas and air thing - but think that was just to shut me up as was clearly not going to have any effect! They managed to get my clothes off somehow and me onto the bed - I have no idea how - but then dh arrived from parking the car and they told me it was time to push - still yelling - favourite phrase was NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! and I NEEEEEEEDDDDDD AAAAAAA POOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
They put my hand down to feel his head and said that each time I pushed I would be able to feel it coming out - which I could and that kept me more focused on pushing. Still yelling!!!
Then his head came out and he had the cord wrapped tightly round his neck (oblivious at time) and they couldn;t move it so pushed again and he came out - they unwrapped cord and delivered him straight onto my tummy at 10.17am.
I had a small tear which they repaired and he started to feed almost straight away I am so proud and pleased by the whole thing despite the urgency at the end!!
I got my natural delivery (was planning on pain relief tho!), with my beautiful boy delivered onto my tummy, dh read the weight and have started to breastfeed successfully - all the things I really wanted
Need to go now - he's hungry ...
