Babybooboo (boy) was born at 3:21am on Friday March 16th weighing 6lbs 4oz ? thirteen days overdue.
I had a post-dates appointment on Wednesday 14th, and the scan showed that my waters had? well? disappeared. I was referred to labour ward, and given a prostaglandin pessary at 12:30am on the 15th. The bleedin? doctors kept me awake for most of the night checking the heartbeat monitor, so I started labour after about 2 hours sleep.
To cut a long story short, I only needed one more pessary, went into transition at about 1am Friday morning, refused to lie on the bed so the monitor kept falling off, and had a 25 minute 2nd stage. Only had gas and air (although they kept implying I?d be in labour for days, so had asked about an epidural), and had the double emotional whammy of NOT BEING PREGNANT ANY MORE (oh the relief) and having the most beautiful baby boy who?s ever been born (apart from all of yours, obviously).
My DH was a fantastic birth partner, and fought my corner against a couple of particularly bossy midwives while rubbing my lower back for about two solid days.
It was love at first sight, and I keep thinking someone?s going to come and take him away: it seems too wonderful to be real.
