Well what an exciting week!

Baby Lucas (probably) arrived yesterday morning at about 8am - about 3 hours after the first real contraction (well, the one that woke me up anyway). Turns out I had got the date mixed up and yesterday was his due date too.

I thought it was yet another false alarm (what with all the stress of dd being in hospital), so had a cup of tea before decideing that heavy contractions every 5 mins was a good reason to go to hospital. Luckily dp was doing the night-shift on the children's ward with dd.

Baby was born within about 3/4 of an hour of getting there - before dp knew about it and before my unofficial doula was able to get there. My poor sister is still recovering from the shock of being an "accidental" witness to the birth.

I battled with the staff to let me go home early (I know I was close to dd, but I just can't sleep in hospitals) and here I am. I am mostly recovered and baby is absolutely fine - all the GBS tests and everything have been done. But I just couldn't take the hospital anymore anyway. At one point the nurse told me off for lying him on his back, but I was too flabbergasted to form the Spanish to argue back.

Anyway I can't tell you how good it is to be home with a nice cup of tea. It's a shame dd isn't here, but she is recovering well.

I may post something a bit less garbled later

!Bien venido al mundo, Senorito Lucas!
What was this about not letting him lie on his back, though???

SenoraPostrophe · 13/01/2004 19:43

Thanks everyone.

I should be sleeping really but I can't.

Morocco - yes I used to be lucy123. I decided I needed a slightly less obvious name.

Just spoken to dd on the phone - I wish I could tell her about her new brother but she's a bit little to understand. He can't go onto the children's ward though so she'll just have to get a big surprise when she gets home.
