George32s wiggly baby finally decided to make an appearance at 7.29am on Friday 30th Dec. We have called him Jake and he is gorgeous
Bit of an ordeal with the labour. Started twinging on Wed at around 9.00pm and contractions really kicked in overnight. Waited til 2.00pm then checked out at the hospital - argh, only 1½cms dilated!!!
Went back home totally deflated and feeling like the biggest wimp in the world.
Continued with contractions all day Thurs which were agony by now then went back to hospital at about 11.00pm. Disaster, still only about 1½cms.
Lovely midwife wasn't sure what to do with me ast the monitor showed I was having strong contractions just they were having no effect on dilation so instead of packing us home she let us stay on the labour ward for monitoring.
Still nothing happening so she made the decision to admit us (phew, finally some gas & air!!) Later decided to break my waters and whoosh, dilated to 3cms instantly and she leaps back as she feels something that might be an ear or a nose!!
After half the hospital having a poke it is established that wiggly is coming face first. The registrar suggests that we can continue trying vaginally but I will have to have a c-section if any intervention is required at pushing stage (and this is likely to be another 7 hours away!) Bearing in mind that I had now been having contractions for over 30 hours, no sleep for days, and therefore no energy left at all, we made the decision to move straight to c-section as the likelyhood of me being able to push the baby out were pretty non-existant.
The hospital staff were fantastic and a whirlwind was set in place that carried us through to Jakes birth at 7.29am.
All a bit fraught and still very tired but persuaded them to let me home yesterday so I'm now recovering with my beautiful baby at home.
Sorry, bit long that wasn't it, but then it is my first (and only!!). Looking forward to joining the rest of the Dec ladies on the post-natal thread soon.
