Violet Mary was born at 10.25pm on 6 September. Felt a few twinges during the day after having had a show during the morning. As have Group B Strep, called dh home early at 5pm and he gave me some iv antibiotics as discussed with our consultant. Then started to get ds and dd fed and bathed and called babysitters. Got to hospital at around 7.30pm, only contracting once every 8 mins and mild ones at that. Sat and watched CSI and then at 10pm things ramped up and switched tens up and used some gas and air. At 10.23 felt pressure to push and within 2 mins my waters broke and she shot out. Delivered on all fours which I highly recommend. She was assessed by the paediatrician and didn't have to have antibiotics but we had to stay in hospital for 24hrs observation which was a bit of a drag but home now and she is being very good so far.
As she was a week early, the nursery isn't ready and we were not as prepared as we would have liked but the birth was so smooth that I can't complain. She was 7lbs 13oz and I had no stitching or bruising. Want to go and have a fourth now!!!

Congratulations Sallie and welcome to Violet Mary - lovely name.

I have never heard of someone's DH administering their IV antibiotics (I have GBS too). Or is he a doctor?

Twiga · 10/09/2005 19:17

DH is indeed a doctor - hence being able to give me the antibiotics. Even then, Violet arrived 3hrs 55 mins after I had them - and you are supposed to have them on board at least 4hrs before the birth. However, as she only spent 2 mins in the birth canal after my waters broke, she didn't have to have the antibiotics herself and was observed for 24 hrs instead - annoying not to be able to come home quickly but understandable, given the risks involved.
