Am I totally daft to be crying all day when my dog has just died?

My wee dog Hollie died this morning aged 7 years from heart failure, she died in her sleep and didn't suffer at all and itr happened in just a few seconds. Am absolutely heartbroken though I got her for my 15th birthday and loved her to bits. ave practically spent all day crying, is this normal?

Sorry to hear this mamadiva. I am not a great animal lover myself but that sounds very upsetting and I am not surprised that you have been crying.

Of course it is, sweetheart. She was a family member and you are right to grieve.

I am so very sorry for your loss, try to comfort yourself with the fact that she felt no pain.

Perfectly normal. Cry it out, I always find it helps.

Aw, bless you! Of course its normal! Personally, I don't 'do' pets, but I can understand how people can get attached to theirs. She was a huge part of your life and you need to grieve the same way as if she were human. Don't beat yourself up about it.

so sorry about your loss.
i lost my 7 year old Zeus who also died of heart failure/heart related. he colapsed suddenly at the vets awaiting his booster and the vets were unable to revive him.

i sobbed for days.

You have lost a loved one, its totally normal. for you. You will have loads of happy memories of her to enjoy and the knowledge that you gave her a fantastic life.
There's no time limit on grief, whether for human or animal, it lasts as long as it lasts.

I feel daft posting on here because there are people out there and on here who are going through much worse than me.

I just had to talk abit I can't talk to anyone about it face to face or on the phone even because I just keep bloody crying, I really do feel pathetic because like I said this is nothing compared to what some people are goin g through but I can't help it.

Thank You all. She was a lovely little springer spaniel and has had a heart problem since February and had epilepsy since birth so I knew it was coming but was expecting another year or so with her.

Not daft at all. I cried (pretty much non-stop) when my dog died (also a springer), and still do, now and again, when something reminds me of him.

It will get easier though...

there is something about the simplicity of animal / person relationship which makes their death very upsetting but you feel a bit guilty for grieving when you knew their life was always going to be fairly short.

she was with you for a third of your life, she was your companion. of course you are bereft.

Course you're not daft. I was exactly the same when our Labrador died. Was like this last week too (our guinea pig died). So sorry for you.

Totally normal. I cried on and off for a few days...in work when my dog died.

It does get easier. It is so good she didn't suffer and you will get to a time where you will be able to think of her and smile about the happy times - they make you cry now but they will make you happy too.

I was a complete wreck when my 9 month old puppy got run over earlier this year. I was very wobbly and weepy for a few days.

Grief is grief - not much you can do about it.

big hugs to you! Its normal to grieve for any loss especially pets I find! It will take time but you will get there x

Thank you everyone I'm glad to know it's not just me who cries over an animal. I feel abit better talking to you all now, just went out for a fag and broke my heart crying just thinking about her. Happy thoughts though but they hurt the now. Might sound mad but she's getting cremated tomorrow and we get her ashes home in a lovely wee wooden box. It cost a bit but her medication was £60 a month so we thought we'd spend two months medication money on her it's money we'd have spent on her either way so we thought we'd do something special for her because it's the last time we'll be able to and all the happy years she's given us it's the least she deserves. Am going to scatter her ashes on a nearby beach that she loved. My 2YO DS keeps saying she climbed a ladder and lives in the clouds now

totally normal and understanding.
our dog died in February - he was nearly 10. We were all distraught and he didn't even live with us. Even now i think of him. Such a lovely dog. RIP Hollie give Jasper a big lick up there in the sky. xx

Aww your post made me smile there amidaiwish, lovely thought about all the doggys together She had 7 pups on chrismas day 2004 and 3 of them died at birth so she's away to see her babies I reckon

Our dog died exactly a month after my daughter was born and she was still in SCBU. I still miss him as I never grieved properly at the time and am still inclined to burst into tears if I think about him. We buried his ashes under a crab apple tree so now I make his crab apple jelly and remember him in a good way.

after she's climbed her ladder to the clouds, she can have a romp around the beach with Jessie, my old dog, who loved chasing waves.

the wooden box sounds like a lovely idea.
