Sibling loss

Really missing my sister tonight. I think about her every day, several times a day, it never goes away but tonight I miss sending her silly shopping hauls on insta and not being able to message her. I’m in my 40s, she was a little older. Wondering if anyone else is in a similar boat.

I'm not in the same boat but I feel your hurt. I still dream about them.
Sending you a hug.

sending a hug your way 💕

Yes I get it. Sorry for your loss. Losing a sibling is huge in my experience. My brother died in May after 5 months suffering. The deep grief started after the funeral when everything backed up comes out.
I hope you find a way to remember your sister tonight and think of special memories.
Sending a hug.

I am so sorry. I lost my sister 14 months ago and the pain is still horrendous. We shared a flat until she died and I still turn to tell her something silly that happened and she’s not there. You aren’t alone. The loss of a sibling is awful xx

Trufflepizza · 26/10/2026 23:07

I fully understand, the instinct to share something funny or interesting, or to
pick up the phone for a chat never leaves. I lost my eldest sister when she was 57, 4 years ago, and then I lost my middle sister last year when she was 55. I still can’t believe any of it is real.
I’m so so sorry for your loss and sending love your way Flowers

So sorry for your loss
I lost my brother last year, I got a lot of support on here when we were in the hospital with him.
I miss him every minute of the day and talk to him often.
(I used to text him and found real comfort in that, but discovered our sister has kept his phone so that was taken from me).
Sending you love and thoughts…feel free to msg me if you need a chat x

I'm so sorry for your loss. I Iost my twin sister suddenly 5 years ago and it still feels unreal. We were soulmates and we're always there for each other. My father died shortly afterwards of a broken heart. I've kept in contact with her friends and they've become my friends. It's helped a lot. I find birthdays the hardest.

Thank you for the kind replies. I’m so sorry for everyone’s losses and that many of us are in the same boat. It can feel incredibly lonely as it’s a loss that’s so difficult for many to understand.

I feel the same way @Trufflepizza, I can’t really believe it is real and perhaps that’s a way of coping. I have to try to push it away sometimes as I think if I let myself think about it too much and go down that road as such, I’m not sure I’d ever come back. For my elderly parents and for my children (young), I have to keep on going. That doesn’t mean that it’s not constantly there but for now, I can’t listen to certain songs or look at old photos, it’s just too painful. I’ve had a few well meaning friends say perhaps I’m depressed. I’m not, it’s just something I’ll never get over or something that will ever not be something truly awful and traumatic that’s happened and I have to carry on and find a way to live with that, as we all do. I do feel a strange feeling of relief at accepting that.

I’m so sorry that you’ve been through it twice @Trufflepizza, that must be a pain that is like no other.

And @SorryDidThatHurtyou must feel the loss immensely having lived together. It’s the silly things you want to tell them that sometimes hits you in the gut the most. Everyone thinks it’s the birthdays and anniversaries and yeah they suck too but it’s the random moments that are often the most painful. I went on overdrive decluttering my house after my sister passed and moved the living room around and I suddenly had a moment of sheer panic that she would never see it like that. Of course I knew she was gone and there were far more important things she would be missing out on (that’s an understatement) but I couldn’t get my head around it and felt so guilty.

It’s a terrible ‘club’ to be a part of, thank you for sharing your own grief xx

Sending you a big hug. I've got 4 sisters and we are close. As we get older each time we all meet up together, usually twice a year we all meet, but some sisters meet up more frequently as they live closer, I wonder if it will be the last time. I dread one of my siblings dying so much. I think losing a parent is very hard but we all kind of expect it because they are older than us but siblings are usually closer together in age so it's less expected. Sorry for your loss.

Hello OP. My beloved oldest daughter died a year ago tomorrow; totally unexpectedly aged 24. The devastation I feel is absolute. I don’t expect (or even want) ever to recover from the loss of her.

One of the things that makes my grief even worse is witnessing the effect upon her 2 younger siblings; especially her sister. They were 3 years apart and best friends (they went on holidays together, days out) as well as sisters. They were each other’s person and had expected to grow old together. My remaining daughter is in such pain at the loss of her sister that it is almost unbearable for me to observe. We are both having good quality therapy and it is helping deal with the trauma and shock of her death.

There is no answer to your grief unfortunately OP. All I can do is let you know that there are others who feel as you.
