HMRC and self assessment of a deceased loved one

I did DH’s self assessment for a deceased person in April, I was told it was a 17 week turn round. Anyhow, 21 weeks later and I’d heard nothing (thought I’d give them a few more weeks), so I rang the bereavement team as per the number on the form.

An apology was given, he didn’t understand why it hadn’t been processed and said he would send it straight over to a colleague and it would be done in about ten days, so expect something in 2/3 weeks time.

TBH I’m of the opinion they don’t start it until you ring up to ask when you can expect it back, so if you’re sat there waiting don’t delay and give them a call.

I've done my late DHs and we do them regularly at work (accy firm). No different turnaround time than any other self assessment return.

Mistakes happen OP. Humans aren’t always on the ball.

Im sorry for your loss but it’s not a big conspiracy someone just didn’t see the ticket and complete the task.
