Ash Scattering in France

We wish to scatter our parents' ashes in France next summer as they spent so many happy holidays there. They didn't have a particular "special" place as they tended to like to try different places every year. Therefore, we're thinking of somewhere in Normandy as easier for most of the family to attend for a weekend (Le Touquet was suggested). I haven't a clue where to start and googling isn't helping much.

Has anyone done this who can point me in the right direction?

Many thanks in advance x

Surely where they spent one of their happy holidays rather than a random place suggested by a mumsnetter

Oh wish I hadn't asked, was thinking aloud re the location, it's more the logistics. Never mind.....

It can be very difficult to get permission in France so don't go down the official route. Just drive to wherever you want to scatter the ashes and do it.
Just make sure it's not private land and you are alone when you do it.

I’m about to do the same somewhere else
in France. You need certificates from the crematorium - i can check our as they are upstairs but I think one is basically to confirm that you are carrying ashes and the other is to say that they can leave the UK.

Ooh. DH scattered his parents’ ashes in Spain. The main issue was getting the ashes past security for the plane. Apparently it scans like an explosive. You need the documents from the crematorium and funeral directors as evidence.

We scattered FIL on their own land and DH scattered MIL at the top of her favourite hill.

I don’t think it occurred to him about permission, but it was about 6am and nobody was around. Assuming you’re discreet I can’t imagine it being a problem.
