5 years since my dad died today

Because with immaculate timing he died on the first day of lockdown, sometimes it never quite feels real. No funeral, I didn't go to the funeral directors, to the registrar, no cards or flowers from anyone, eventually I just picked up a box of ashes (which by then was my mum too).
People talking about the lovely weather and baking banana bread and I just negotiated losing both parents in a month while everyone else just moved on seamlessly without them.

I’m so sorry @CMOTDibbler .
Thinking of you xxx

Oh gosh I'm so sorry, that's awful. So hard to deal with the loss in those circumstances. Is there any way you could have a memorial service now?

CMOTDibbler · 24/03/2025 11:20

@Triakne initially I intended to have a memorial for them - and in normal times a huge number of people would have turned out for either of them - but by the time you could have an event the time had passed really. And no one asked either which if their siblings had asked, would have made me feel it needed to be done

I'm sorry for your loss, it's scary how fast time moves isn't it 😥 my Mum didn't have a funeral either and it felt really strange, still does.

I’m so sorry for your loss OP and the circumstances must make it all the harder.

OudAndRose · 25/03/2025 21:41

Oh OP, that sounds terribly sad. I'm so sorry for your loss and the awful circumstances surrounding it. I hope you are taking care of yourself and can also look back on happy memories of your parents Flowers
