DF can't attend DMs funeral

DM died at the weekend and it was her wish for her funeral to take place in her home town, about 2 hours away from where we all live now.

DF has just said he doesn't think he is well enough to travel. I'm trying not to think of the emotional side of that, just practicalities for now, keeping him included, even if he isn't present.

Had anyone been in a similar situation? Do people do live streams, or arrange a smaller memorial locally for people who can't travel?

Thanks for any thoughts or advice x

Can't you have it nearer to him? It may have been her wish at the time but I'm sure she would rather he was there. You know your mum. Sorry it's such a horrible time for you all

Streaming seems commonplace since covid. Is she being interred in her hometown? Could there be a private service where they lived and funeral/cremation in her hometown. He can then have a memorial plaque, bench or tree/rosebush wherever he chooses.

Thank you, I appreciate all your thoughts and experiences. On reflection, a small, local service for DF and older friends who can't travel will include him, and we can still have the hometown ceremony she wanted, which DF can live stream and be mentioned in.
