Yesterday morning it happened.
She is not suffering anymore and has been ill so long. I am so sad yet relieved.
My dad (who was in the same ward for 4 months!) is coming home today to an empty house after 43 yearsof marriage. They met when they were young teenagers.
I have just opened their washing machine and there was a pile of her clothes that was in the middle of washing and I am in bits again....
To all you lovely people who have lost their mums or dads. Now I understand.
Love to you all x Jane

Jane - so sorry my darling. Cry whenever you want to, don't feel guilty if you smile at something. Hope today isn't too bad for both you and your Father. Love to you all

Oh Jane, I don't know what to say.

My Gran died before I was born, but my mam told me about bringing her clothes home fro the hospital & them having her smell on them..she still has them in a cupboard.

Your poor dad, oh I don't know what to say.

I'm thinking of you x

tigermoth · 05/04/2008 15:21

I am so sorry,

I think it's often the little things that you find by chance that bring on the grief and memories.

take care xx

CaptainUnderpants · 05/04/2008 15:24

Jane , really sorry to hear about your Mum.

The next few weeks will seem totally sureal and you will end up going round in a daze even though there are so many things to do .

My heart goes out to your Dad aswell , my Dad is a widower after 57 yrs of marriage.

Just cry when you feel like and come to on to Musmnet for a chat , lost of people who have been through it .

My thoughts are with you . xx

peanutbear · 05/04/2008 15:25

I am so sorry

BecauseImWorthIt · 05/04/2008 15:36

Sorry to hear your news.

My mum died almost exactly 4 years ago, and I don't think my dad has ever really recovered, to be honest.

Look after yourself over the next few weeks, they will feel very odd.

NotABanana · 05/04/2008 16:13

Oh dear, I am so sorry for your loss. Your poor father. Make sure he eats and rinks, won't you?

LilRedWG · 05/04/2008 16:16

gogsi · 05/04/2008 16:35

oh jane.I'm so sorry for your loss.May whoever's up there keep her safe.
I lost my mum a year and a half ago and sometimes it feels like yesterday and sometimes I hear her voice her humour, relay a story and she's here again. and remember. Funerals are for the living. Give praise for a life well lived. x

Hassled · 05/04/2008 16:40

I'm so sorry.
Go very easy on yourself - you won't ever "get over" this, but you will get used to feeling like this, and it won't stop you being happy in the future.
