Hi Mumsnetters,
Just looking for some initial advice, please. My husband’s father passed away yesterday in Thailand – he was alone there on holiday and we are still trying to establish what travel insurance he had, if any. He was by himself and is a British citizen.
My husband has been NC with their dad for many years and we no longer live in the UK (not Thailand) but my husband’s brother is still in the UK and was a lot closer to their dad. Obviously we want to offer support and help to the UK-based brother as we don’t want to leave it all on him.
Can anyone offer advice on what steps we need to take to get death certificates and official notification from the Thai authorities so we can inform the right people in the UK? What is the order of proceedings?
Also with regard to repatriation, how does this work either with/without travel insurance and rough costs and who can assist? I am doing some googling this morning but I guess I’m more wondering if there is anything we should make sure we do (or don’t do) to make this as smooth as possible. We are not sure where to start really.
Thanks in advance for any tips or advice.
