Can you book a cremation without a death certificate?

Without too much context, I wondered if anyone experienced in funeral planning could tell me that really? Thank you!

I believe I made a provisional booking by phone because death certificate was delayed a couple of days because the coroner had to be notified.

I believe you can book provisionally but death certificate will need to be issued and the crematorium provided with a separate form for the cremation to go ahead which was issued by the registrar when doing death certificate from recent experience.

As a pp says, there has to be a separate document allowing cremation, although I'm not sure how this works with certain faiths which require a funeral and cremation within a very short time after death.

'I'm not dead!'

I'm a funeral arranger OP.

The crematorium will want to see either the death certificate or the coroners authority to bury/cremate (if the deceased went to the coroner). They must have one or the other.

Your funeral arranger can certainly book a provisional date at the crematorium without the certificate, but if the date is drawing near and the certificate hasn't been issued (or coroners certificate not issued) then the date will have to be postponed. In the case where there is no certificate yet we'd usually book at least 2-3 weeks ahead.
