Tonight I did a nice thing

A lady who lost her dd in a car crash was after a tile to put on a brick on the path for her daughter's memorial garden - when her dd died she took cuttings of her herbs and planted a herb garden at her own home as a memorial.

She had painted her dds name on a brick but wanted a proper ceramic tile .

I started ceramics a few months ago and I saw her appeal - so I've made her two tiles she can cement to the brick on the path for her daughters garden .

Her dd was an artist and signed her work a specific way so I've use that font (had to do it freehand and I've discovered I could be a forger !)

I've made her two tiles so when one wears out she has a spare .

I'm very pleased with them and hope she will be too . They are currently in the kiln but next week I'll be glazing them (using oxides to make it look like terracotta and then glazing her name into the script I've used to make it stand out )

She had been quoted stupid amounts to do this by potters but since I'm learning I've done them for free . I hope
She likes the finishes result ! I'll post pics when they're finished !

That’s lovely. I’m sure your gift will really be appreciated.

I rang her tonight to say they're in the kiln - and I'll be in touch when they're ready .

She's elderly, lost her daughter and then lost he husband to dementia.

Her garden is beautiful. I'm looking forward to them coming out of the kiln - and I hope she likes what I've created for her .

Took 2 hours to make , will take a further 2 hours to glaze and then hopefully I can give them to her . I e made a patterned tile with flowers , then a plaque with her name , so "xxxxx"s garden " in the dont she wrote her signature in .

I've really enjoyed making them .

That's so lovely of you, brought a tear to my eye. Thank you for being you, it's nice to have lovely people like you in the world 💗

AnyaMarx · 21/06/2023 03:05

Thank you . I'm feeling anything but lovely tonight as my dd has said she is cutting me out of her life because I'm divorcing her father - we've bee separated 8 years.

I've always been a soft touch . Got a gazillion adopted animal's because I can't say no , I always thought I was decent . Im really happy to do this for this lady , im sure she'll be pleased with my creation - they're what she wanted and in her dds handwriting . I can't wait to give her them . I rang her tonight to say they're in the kiln and I haven't forgotten her .

Sorry your Dd is responding like this. Is her father even this bothered? Sounds like a very childish reaction

determinedtomakethiswork · 21/06/2023 06:28

I'm sorry to hear about your daughter. How old is she? Was she happy for you to be separated but not divorced? Is she getting all this from her father?

determinedtomakethiswork · 21/06/2023 06:36

It might be a good idea for you to start a new thread about your daughter in the relationship section. It sounds as though you really need some help there. 💐

I'm not operating it ! The studio I work from does - there are classes all week so it's always working.

I do have RA . It's my one hobby . I go once a week - it's a very short distance away and it's the only time I leave the house? I do not understand your point ?
Even my manager at work encourages me to go - I didn't go last week because I couldn't get out of bed but I pay £135 for 6 weeks so this week I forced myself to go - I sat down at a table and made two tiles . I was there for 2 hours. When I got home my feet knee and ankles were swollen so I took photos of them for the consultation next week - to show that even doing a tiny bit of driving and walking has an effect

I do not understand your point unless you are saying I should never leave the house ?

My ankles swell if I leave my bed and don't have my feet up - but I ca t simply stay in bed 24/7 .

Tonight I did a nice thing

First pic a few months ago - this pic last Sunday.

Would you like a copy of my medical notes as well ?

I was hoping to see the finished tiles, not feet.

You've done a really lovely thing by the way.

Well someone seems to be insinuating I can't have a hobby because I have RA .

I'll post pics of the tiles when they're glazed .

That's a lovely thought but just to say it means anyone who knows her/sees the tiles and sees this thread will know exactly who you are, so might be worth a name change afterwards. And checking there's nothing under your current user name on other threads you wouldn't want local folk to read.

Unknownunknowns · 21/06/2023 18:06

That's a lovely thing to do @AnyaMarx, very kind of you and I'm sure will be well received.

Sorry for your troubles with your RA & DD, hope things look up for you soon 💐
