My mum died a few weeks before Christmas 2022. She was only 68, had so much to live for but her addiction killed her. I am devastated. lf anyone has been in the same situation and is willing to share how they coped, or can recommend any books about losing a parent in this way l would really appreciate it. 🙏

Someone close to me experienced this. I reckon it is much more common than people want to admit. Often the alcohol turbo charges another illness eg cancer.

Does al anon have bereavement groups?

Sorry for your loss.

My dh lost both parents to alcoholism. Mum at 25 and his dad at 34. He had some counselling after loosing his dad but more to unpick some feelings about his mum. His dad was a shit husband and dad. His mum wanted to leave but didn't have the strength and drunk to cope it seems. He dad was drinking anyway. His dad (dh Grandad) was an alcoholic too.
