How long off school after death of Granny

My Mil died suddenly 24 hours ago, my teens yr11 and upper 6th took today off school as they are very upset and tearful, I don't want to push them into going back to school tomorrow but feel it may give them some distraction from feeling overwhelmed with sadness. Anyone got any experience with this. (The school are aware and have had some lovely supportive emails)

It varies by their relationship and how they personally handle this. I my grandmother died when I was in upper sixth and I had the day of the funeral off but otherwise didn't take any off. Long time ago admittedly, was not sudden.

My DD's were wfh when we lost the remaining grandparents (their great grandparents) - covid

My DM died a few weeks ago. My DCs all reacted differently. Two of them wanted to go to work/school and try to be ‘normal’. The other 2 were absolutely heartbroken and couldn’t even think about it. I think that you need to be led by them and how they are feeling. Grief is very unique to the individual and how you deal with it. I personally didn’t want to see anyone either. Sending hugs 🤗

Depends. My mum died and I went back to work the next day. Teens also went back the same day.
