Cost of engraving headstone

I have to have my mums headstone engraved. It is a family plot so the headstone is already there. It needs to be removed and engraved with her details and then put back. Does anyone with recent experience know how much this should cost? Thank you

Just had a quote for doing this for my mum and to add in her dates, re gild existing lettering, cleaning etc it will cost £725.

Thank you. I think the main cost is the removal and resetting. And I think most of the time the stone has to be removed. Was this the case for you?

I had details added to a headstone that was already in place and it was only £100. This was about 5 years ago. The guy did it without removing the stone. Might be worth shopping around?

I recall about £500 a couple of years ago adding my dads details to stone already in place. They have to remove the stone, do the engraving, clean it and replace it yes.

If you can find a local stonemason who has the relevant fixing certificate for churchyards it will be cheaper and much better quality. Hand carved letters are much better than machine. My partner charges £6 a letter.

@LunaDeet That it a mile from the quotes I am getting. I need a whole kerbstone grave with headstone and engraving and I can't find anything for less than £3k which I just don't have. I feel ashamed of the plot and am desperate to make it look smart, but it's so expensive.
